Last winter we had three local indoor shows to attend while waiting for warmer weather for our outdoor events to start. Once we got to March and the cancellation of the Mid Atlantic Indoor Show, it was to be a sign of the times. Sorry to say, nothing has gotten better, both the Indoor Nationals & Drag Fest for this winter has been cancelled already. Around Christmas time, we’ll hear the final decision on Motorama. In this issue is a message from Andy Goodman, the Event Coordinator of Motorama Events, with the disappointing news.
There isn’t much scheduled over the next several months, so all I can say is spend the time with your families & getting your rides ready for the spring. Once we get to April or May, the experts are saying we have a good chance of starting to return to some sense of normalcy. For now, please visit our site www.carcruiseguide.com for updates, and we are working on “Virtual Indoor National Show” showing the best of the last several years at Timonium.
Rather than focus on all the negative aspects of what Covid has done to the car show scene, I want to end the year to say while it has been very hard to maintain this magazine, it has been worth it for me. Although I haven’t made any money this year from the magazines, my family is well, and we are personally doing OK as my wife still has her job, and I have started to draw off my retirement funds and social security.
I have always published the Car Show & Cruise Guide as my contribution to the hobby and it’s future. I’ll continue to do my best to keep things going. Recently I turned the helm of my boat publication over to a friend, which leaves me with more time to ensure a great future for this magazine. Look for some changes in our next issue, and more content on our site. You will like what you see!
We ended the year just like we started with some cruises through the country side. In April when nothing was open, we went ahead and had some cruises out of Cooptown, and encouraged others to do the same. With all the UN-Official events, most of us were able to get together and make the most of what we had to deal with. During that time, I met two great younger cruisers, Nicholas & Ryan Sprenkle. They attended more shows and cruises than I even did. Ryan was recently honored with the YOUNG CRUISER OF THE YEAR AWARD at our Foundation Car Show (below).
So, eventually, we will get back to a time when we can do what we do and just have fun showing off our cars. Let’s get out in 2021, and hope the only cancellations are for rain. This year I did my best to keep readers updated, so keep visiting our site, read our new issues, and visit our Facebook pages. Remember, the Cruise Guide is your BEST source for up to date information on the hobby. Support the advertisers, and tell your friends about us.
Merry Christmas and Have a Safe & Happy New Year, – Dave
