A Message From Dave | April 2026

Hey I thought I was supposed to be retired!

For those of you that missed my column in December, I’m now out of the magazine publishing business. But something’s wrong here folks, I find myself remaining as a Keyboard Warrior, and Delivery Boy.

I sold my boat magazine and planned to stay around for a year to help out. Still helping out with ads and deliveries six years later!

Well, after 16 years I decided to move on from this magazine and sold it to our Foundation for a buck at the end of last year. I promised to stay on for a year just like I did for the boat magazine. Now I’m thinking you just might be stuck with me for many more years. With almost 30 years in advertising and media production, I just can’t seem to give it up completely.

For now, I’m still handling everything but billing and accounting. What changed is the Custom & Classic Car Educational Foundation owns the publication and any net proceeds after expenses will directly go to help meet its mission.

Separate accounts are open for the magazine and Foundation so you can be assured any donations go directy to our mission.

Doug will be very transparent with listing our donations and how the funds are disbursed.

I remain a volunteer officer of the Foundation, and I remain as the manager putting the magazine together and delivering it for you. It’s still a labor of love of the hobby for now. Still semi-retired and doing what I want after all these years.

This magazine is still here for you, the readers, to keep you informed of what’s happening in your hobby. My message remains the same: support the advertisers who pay to be in this FREE publication. Support the shows and clubs that are listed in these pages, and send those free listings to: [email protected].

So, if your event is in our market area, the listing in these pages and on our site is FREE, folks. And we list every non- profit that gets the listing to me.

Happy Spring, Dave

Old Media for Old Guys! Cruise Guide Beats Facebook!

While we agree that Facebook posts help with your promotion and you need various media outlets to get a complete saturation, Face- book alone is not going to get you the results you are trying to get. We see several posts in our 2 groups (over 25,000 members) of events that the poster is either too lazy or just too forgetful to email into the magazine. Never could understand this, folks. Most FB posts only reach ten to twenty percent of the viewers. And in popular groups like ours, after a day or so many more are posted and yours just gets forgotten. Then it creeps further down the page.

The Car Show & Cruise Guide is considered the area’s best source for events, shows, news and services all in one place. With our 15,000 readers of the magazine, and 100,000 visitors to our site, and to those 25,000 FB fans, we are your best bet to reach your target audience. And unlike many other online or Facebook opportunities you might find, we are your most cost effective media outlet in our market area.

Our business ads in the magazine are very reason- able and can also appear on the website. Non-profit rates apply to advertise your show or club events. AND anyone in our market area is welcome to send your FREE show listings to us (if it’s in our market area, it runs). We don’t pick and choose who gets that free space. Doesn’t matter if you have a show on the same date as one of our events… it still runs. BUT you must send in the listing or copy of your flyer to Dave@ carcruiseguide.com to be included.

Let us help make your business or event more successful in 2026- Send your events or contact us today to be included on our site or in an upcoming issue.

Foundation Update: April 2026

Cruising Season 2026

Well, hello everyone, and welcome to Cruising Season 2026. I want to start off by asking for some help. We have a large amount of readers and I’m sure each of you know folks that may have a business or possibly you have a business of your own. We are always looking for new advertisers, so if you are a business owner or know a business owner that might see the benefit in advertising in this publication, Please get in touch with us. Our rates are incredibly reasonable and we have around 15,000 readers. Add that to over 100,000 hits online and you have the beginning of an excellent marketing program.

Now, if you happen to be in a car club or are involved with any other organiza- tion that is putting together a car show or cruise; we are an excellent alternative to printed flyers. As an example, just 200 color-printed flyers cost in the neighborhood of $100. Now you have to circulate those flyers yourself at various car shows and venues prior to your event. Multiply that by however many flyers you choose to print and circulate…the cost can get out of hand.

A full page ad in the Car Show & Cruise Guide is only $410 (if you’re a nonprofit that rate is just $325, and most show flyers can be converted into a 1/4 page which is only $125) Given the circulation numbers that I mentioned previously, you can see the economic benefit to giving us a try. Get in touch with Dave or myself if you have any interest in putting together an advertising program.

Getting into our upcoming events…

We are proud to be participating in the Bel Air Town Derby on May 17. It is a Soap Box Derby race that will involve over 30 teams from various civic organizations and businesses in the Harford County area.

You’ve seen our entry at the East Coast Indoor Nationals and on our social media. We hope that you may come and support us at the event and check out the many other teams that are participating. Our spring car show this year is going to occur at Hopkins Farm Brewery up near Havre de Grace Maryland on Sunday, May 31. There will be food trucks, live entertainment and then we will have a 50-50 and some door prizes to share with everyone.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all out and about this year and as always,

See you on the return road,
Doug

Foundation Update: February- March 2026

Howdy Y’all…

Welcome to the first issue of the Car Show and Cruise Guide under ownership of the Custom and Classic Car Educational Foundation.

This is a very exciting time for us and I hope you, our readers will reap the benefits. You will not see any major changes; however the changes that do come will be thoughtful and done with you, the reader in mind.

Just after the first of the year we published a survey, through Facebook, that asked some general questions regarding your satisfaction with this publication.

This survey turned out to be immensely popular, as it reached its limits in terms of total responses allowed in less than 24 hours.

The results can be seen on below. (click to see a larger image)

Car-Show-Cruise-Guide-2026-Survey-Results

As you can see, the survey shows the greatest majority of folks are satisfied with how the magazine operates.

We will still continue to make gradual changes that will provide a more rewarding reading experience for you.

Now, onto some business; At the East Coast Indoor Nationals, we donated a brand new tire changing machine and electronic balancer to the good folks at the Classic Motor Museum in Saint Michael’s Maryland.

Also, one of our valued volunteers, Thom Lombardi, donated a working vintage Sun Tuneup console.

These pieces of equipment will be used in the museum’s educational annex on Main Street. While at the ECIN we found out that our friends with Hot Rodders of Tomorrow at York Tech were headed to Indianapolis to compete for the national title.

We decided to donate $500 to help offset their travel expenses.

Andy Goodman, the producer of the ECINs stepped up and matched our donation.

By the way, those great students went on to take the championship. With 3 squads competing, they took 1st, 5th and 13th out of 26 teams competing. Well done, guys and girls!!!

Shortly after this magazine hits the streets, we will be seeing many of you at our annual All Clubs Breakfast.

There, representatives from area clubs and civic organizations present plans for their upcoming events for the upcoming rodding season.

We also get a legislative update from one of our states delegates.

If you’re not planning on being there this year, consider keeping an eye out for it for next year. We look forward to growing with you during this new period in the CCCEF’s history!

See you on the return road,
~Doug

Cruise Guide to Change Ownership

This is my last column as owner of this publication…

It’s time for a new chapter for the Car Show & Cruise Guide.

It’s really all good news folks, please read on… As most of you know since the Covid days, I had my share of struggles in my publishing business. The expenses for this publication have gone way up to a point that there is nothing left for me after paying the bills. With everyone asking me to keep this going through the years, I hated to end it now. So I decided to just do a virtual publication where people could read it online and find out what’s going on. Fortunately, those plans changed when a good-friend intervened.

I recently met with Doug Wood, the President of the Foundation, to share the news. Since his group has been helping out through the past few years, we decided to just transfer the Cruise Guide ownership over to the Custom & Classic Car Educational Foundation.

The magazine will now be around for several more years!

As a non-profit, the group should be able to reduce some costs and make some money for its important mission’s goals. So the next chapter of the Car Show & Cruise Guide begins in January.

My role will change from publisher to production manager. Most of my responsibilities will remain the same except for the financial parts. New and exciting features should be introduced as we move forward!

I want to thank all my loyal advertisers and readers who have helped make this local car show publication so valuable to the community. We’ve been proud to provide a service which nobody else offers; many even call it their “Car Show Bible”! We have printed our physical publication for our 15,000 readers, and updated our web- site weekly during the show-season, which serves almost 100,000 visitors. On the site you can find online-only magazines with thousands of additional photos from the shows. We have 25,000 fans of our two Facebook groups, featuring additional show information.

Here are a couple of things you can do to keep your favorite publication coming: Buy your goods and services from our great advertisers.

Let them know you appreciate them providing this free resource.

Support the Custom & Classic Car Educational Foundation with your end-of-the-year donations.

And maybe even join them as a member, and help to Save the Hobby.

Here’s to the next chapter of the publication, see you in 2026!
~Dave
